Calm done, I like my parents music first of all. Novelty music? Maybe Rev. Payton and Brownbird maybe, but that's about it... Baby Gramps is not "old fucking music with a modern paint job" and is probably one of the greatest folk/blues player today and ever IMO. I assumed you didn't like rap so I stayed in the folky type friendly music range. Jedi Mind Tricks, Hittman, Bishop Lamont. Those are three more underground type artists from my play lists, and are rap.

you manage to name-drop a handful of oddball folk groups and token rap artist which doesn't prove anything. I've heard of most of these. novelty shit doesn't count. You still haven't convinced me. All the folk/blues you listen to? It's old fucking music with a modern paint job. And this Smash Mouth song is a Doors/Searchers ripoff. You're listening to your parents music without even realizing it. Rather then add to the growing list of hate comments on your profile, I'm going to bow out. See ya.

Have you ever heard of Jason Webley, Hillstomp, Dresdon Dolls, Immortal Technique, Tommy Dean, Brownbird Rudy Relic, Rev. Payton, Baby Gramps, or Gogol Bordello? Probably not. I listen to more then pop artists.

I also never said getting exposure on radio/TV was bad. Alot of what I listen to is new music Have you ever heard of Disappears, Deerhunter, Caribou, Animal Collective, Black Mountain, Of Montreal, Ghostland Observatory, MGMT and Cut Copy? Didn't think so. Why? You don't give a shit about music. So before you feel sorry for me having an extensive musical taste, allow me to feel sorry for you having no knowledge of anything beyond pop (even though a good deal of it is great). End of discussion.

or maybe it isnt...i'm a little confused :D
techiepiratechick (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I guess with pictures I actually listened to it. So, this song is about drugs? huh, never even listened. Just sang absentmindedly

Stop listening to your parent's music then, wow. You know Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and even Albert King had number one hits? Nothing wrong with being successful and getting exposure on the radio/TV. "I just have alot of appreciation for all periods of music equally" but you don't listen to music that's new?... Man, I feel sorry for you.

That's fine that you think the popular music of the 90s is good. We all have our tastes. And it's not a generation gap lol I'm 17. I just have alot of appreciation for all periods of music equally, which definitely alienates me from most of the 2000's hits-listening people, which is most of my generation

Subjective obviously though so I'm not trying to sound like a prick or something...

The early 1800s were amazing(Mozart, Beethoven, etc)but I think the classical music got weak in the later 1800s. So the 1800s had some weak decades. I should of said 80 years because 30s blues were great(Skip James, Son House, Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton, etc). I thought the popular music of the 90s were really good, and judging by the music on your profile your older and probably wish the music still sounded like the 60s. So it's generation difference 4u and that's the way itisformostpeople. |
