In medeival Iceland Loki was blamed for hot weather, so it's possible he is a fire god, or maybe the god of hot weather. Modern day people who worship him often say they get the feeling that Loki is a fire god.

Loke is not the god of fire, he is as some people already said the god of mischief. They where probably mistaking Loki for Logi when they made this song. Logi is fire itself and defeated Loki in an eating contest by not only eating the food but also the bones and the wooden trencher the food was placed in.
